The soon-to-arrive Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has spoken out following his international teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s role in helping Paris Saint-Germain eliminate his future club from the Champions League.
Mamardashvili is set to join the Reds this summer, with a deal having been struck with Valencia last year for the goalkeeper’s transfer. The Georgian internationals have grown up playing together since their teenage years before cementing their places in the national squad more recently.
PSG’s impactful winger, snapped up from Napoli for £60 million in the recent winter window, played a vital part in both encounters of the round of 16 tie. He notably had a goal disallowed at the French capital, which was narrowly officiated as offside by VAR, and lasted over 100 minutes on the pitch at Anfield before being subbed off during the additional time.
Kvaratskhelia took to Instagram to post three images from the encounter, including one showing the PSG team’s jubilations, captioned: “Trust the process.” Mamardashvili responded to the post with a flair of support, dropping three fire emojis in the comments section.
Interestingly, Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas – the latter presently on loan at Stoke City from Liverpool – also follow the PSG star; however, they didn’t interact with the publication. The keeper’s reaction, however, did prompt remarks from followers hinting at his anticipated shift to Anfield.
“Your club next season, bro (skull emoji),” commented one user. Another tagged a friend before noting: “mate, he’s playing for us next season.”
Kvaratskhelia, interestingly, steered clear of social media after the first leg, making his recent post the first since celebrating their 3-2 triumph over Lyon in late February—a moment that Koumas notably appreciated with a like.
Mamardashvili’s words arrive just days after he candidly admitted to his dip in performance at Valencia. Taking to social media on Saturday, he opened up, “I know I’m not in the best shape right now,” but he expressed a resilient outlook: “but I’m sure that difficulties will make me stronger. Putting in all my effort to get back to the best shape I can.”
