Barcelona and Real Madrid could reportedly go head-to-head for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong during this summer’s transfer window.
The 24-year-old has again been an impressive performer for Leverkusen during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring three goals and registering 10 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.
Frimpong’s future is currently the subject of much speculation, with the Netherlands international believed to be keen to leave the Bundesliga champions in the upcoming market in search of a new challenge.
It was recently claimed that the Dutchman has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ allowing him to leave Xabi Alonso‘s side this summer, with a €40m (£34m) bid likely to be accepted by the German club.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona and Real Madrid are both interested in Frimpong, who made the move to Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021, boasting a record of 28 goals and 39 assists in 181 matches for his current side.

Barcelona, Real Madrid ‘set to battle for Frimpong’
Barcelona are said to be keen to sign a new right-back this summer, with the Catalan giants looking to bring in competition for Jules Kounde, who was initially signed as a centre-back.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are also in the market for a right-back, with Liverpool‘s Trent Alexander-Arnold their top target.
As it stands, Alexander-Arnold will be available on a free transfer this summer, and Real Madrid are the heavy favourites for him, but a move to Bernabeu for the England international is far from certain.
Real Madrid are also being linked with Manchester United‘s Diogo Dalot, while Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu is an interesting option for Carlo Ancelotti‘s side considering his excellent performances this season.

Would Frimpong be a good signing for Barcelona, Real Madrid?
Frimpong’s best work comes from the right-sided wing-back role, but neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid play that formation, so it would be interesting to see where the Dutchman would fit into the side.
There are question marks when it comes to Frimpong’s defensive work, with his best football being played further forward, but it is unlikely that he would receive too much action at either club as a part of their front three.
The alleged asking price is extremely reasonable considering his quality, though, and with Barcelona and Real Madrid dominating the vast majority of matches that they play, he could be the ideal player for certain fixtures.
