Bruno Fernandes has been the bright spark at United this season, but, even then, Fernandes has been far from perfect.
Peter Schmeichel has questioned Fernandes’ role in this team, and speaking on TalkSPORT, Nicky Butt has made quite the claim about the midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes wouldn’t have lasted a day under Alex Ferguson
Butt spoke about Bruno Fernandes and how he would have got on back in United’s glory days.
The pundit says that Fernandes is a top talent, but he wouldn’t have lasted a day under Ferguson due to his attitude and how he acts towards his teammates and referees.
“He scores goals, he’s always a standout player for the football club. However, I think the thing that gets people’s backs up is some of his actions on the pitch towards his teammates, towards the referee, towards the fans,” Butt said.
“He wouldn’t have lasted a day in our training. He wouldn’t have, honestly. He wouldn’t have lasted a day in our training.”
“Not me, not with some of the senior players. They wouldn’t have this throwing their arms about and undermining a player. It was like he would just get completely cleaned out and it would be…”
“He’s a talent, he’s really good, but I think someone needs to get hold of him and say, this is not how you behave as a Man United captain. But I take your point, because I’m looking at captains that were in great eras when they had other players that were captains around him, and he is on his own a little bit in that sense. So I get both sides of the story, but for me it’s like, Bruno, stop using all your energy more than a referee, stop it.
“Because you’re using all your energy up, just go and do what you keep doing, score in the goals. And he is right, we need more players out of that talent.”
Alex Ferguson had played with attitude problems
Butt says that the £47m man wouldn’t have lasted a day at United under Alex Ferguson due to his attitude.
However, that’s not quite an accurate portrait of what that United team was all about.
Indeed, United had their fair share of players who liked a moan on the pitch, as well as players who would kick off with their own teammates.
Nemanja Vidic would often stop speaking to his teammates after arguments at United, while Cristiano Ronaldo was famous for whinging about refereeing decisions and not receiving the right passes from teammates.
In fact, Ronaldo even got Wayne Rooney sent off at a World Cup with his antics.
On top of that, Wayne Rooney actually scored one of his best goals for United just seconds after arguing with a referee.
Is Bruno Fernandes petulant at times? Of course he is, but a number of the greatest players in United’s history also had the same sort of traits.
