The Dutch defender is approaching the end of his contract at Anfield and so far, is yet to agree a deal to extend his stay.

Van Dijk has made 310 appearances for the Reds since arriving from Southampton for £80million.

The 33-year-old was spotted speaking to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luis Campos in the Anfield tunnel following Liverpool’s Champions League exit on Tuesday.

However, sources have played down the chat and insist they were not talking about his future.

Liverpool are optimistic they will reach an agreement with the Netherlands international.

If a move does materialise, Van Dijk will become join ex-teammates Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho in plyign his trade in the Middle East.

However, the Saudi interest comes hours after the defender revealed he has no idea where his future lies.

Following Tuesday’s clash, the Dutchman was asked whether he would still be a Liverpool player in August.

“I have no idea at the moment, genuinely I still have no idea,” Van Dijk responded. “It is not on hold. Nothing on hold. There are 10 games to go and that is my full focus. If there is news you guys will know it. I don’t even know myself.

“Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it. At the moment I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face.”

The first of what could be his final 10 games for the Reds comes in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley.

Van Dijk has fond memories of the competition having netted the winner in last year’s final against Chelsea.

Arne Slot’s men will be hoping to banish the disappointment of exiting the Champions League by landing their first piece of silverware of the season.

After the international break, the Reds turn their attention back to Premier League duties as they look wrap up a joint-record 20th top-flight title.

Van Dijk has played a key role in helping Liverpool open up a whopping 15-point lead at the top of the table and the Dutchman remains confident that his side can deliver a league and cup double.

“There are two big prizes we can still get,” he added. “We are going to give it everything. We have to feel the disappointment tonight but from tomorrow it is about recovery and be ready for a good one.

“If we bring this intensity in Wembley with our fans, then I am positive. I am always positive. But I am really looking forward to being back out there.”
