New England boss Thomas Tuchel will name his first national team roster since replacing Gareth Southgate this week ahead of the Three Lions taking on Albania and Latvia and World Cup qualifying.
The announcement is expected to be at around 10am ET (2pm GMT) on Friday and a press conference with Tuchel will follow. The German will explain some key decisions with several players set to miss out.
Liverpool trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott will be among those hoping to impress Tuchel in the coming months and years. But Joe Gomez is currently sidelined through an injury that he has undertaken surgery for.
Alexander-Arnold also limped off as Liverpool played PSG in the Champions League midweek and he is a major doubt for England duty as a result. He is not expected to be involved as the Reds take on Newcastle United at Wembley this weekend.
Elliott has not played much for Liverpool this season and is therefore an outside bet to make Tuchel’s squad. But Jones has been selected for senior England duty before and should expect to be involved alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.
“I am very proud to have been given the honor of leading the England team,” Tuchel said when he was unveiled. “I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.
“To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege. The opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.”
Possible England roster
Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson, James Trafford.
Defenders: Djed Spence, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Tino Livramento, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Harry Maguire, Jarrad Branthwaite, Ben White.
Midfielders: Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Curtis Jones, Elliot Anderson.
Attackers: Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon, Morgan Rogers, Morgan Gibbs-White, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins, Liam Delap.
Liverpool.com says: There is no doubt that Curtis Jones deserves to be there. The Liverpool ace struggled against PSG but that doesn’t represent the kind of player he is. Under Arne Slot, his role has been more sporadic but he is very much the type who would complement the likes of Bellingham and Rice nicely. In the slower pace of international soccer, he would fit in perfectly.
