Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister has urged the team to shake off its recent Champions League loss to PSG and “go again” for the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

Despite the Reds experiencing only their fifth defeat of the season with a 1-0 setback against the French champions, there’s no time for Liverpool to linger on the disappointment as it prepares for a crucial match at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, where manager Arne Slot could secure his first trophy with the club.

With the Wembley showdown in sight, Mac Allister took to Instagram on Thursday night to motivate both players and fans, stating: “Disappointing not to go through but mourning is done and it’s time to go again on Sunday. Thank you for your support.”

The sentiment was echoed by other Liverpool players who expressed their feelings about the defeat, including Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones, who both missed penalties. On Wednesday, Jones shared his thoughts: “Stepping up and trying to help the team in every moment I can is the type of person that I am.”

“This comes with risk and failing, last night I got a taste of that! I can live with missing but I can’t live without taking the responsibility. 10 to go. Starting with a cup final.” Meanwhile, Nunez penned the words: “Get up and carry on, as always.”

It was a similar message from skipper Virgil van Dijk after the shootout defeat to PSG with Liverpool in a great position to win the double this season. Speaking after the Champions League exit, Van Dijk said: ” It was totally there for Liverpool and what we showed in Paris and unfortunately we’re out on penalties and that is the reality.

“I think in the first half we created dangerous moments and they have the quality as well, and then it comes down to penalties.

“It’s part of football, I said to the guys, obviously, you can be disappointed because we’re out of the competition, but chin up and get ready for the next challenge, a beautiful one on the weekend.”
