Max Eberl has some plans…
At the press conference ahead of Bayern Munich’s match against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, board member for sport Max Eberl touched on a number of topics, including a the chatter that Leon Goretzka might warrant a new contract — something that Eberl has been rumored to be adamantly against,
“Leon has taken his moments and proven how important he is. It’s also deserved that he’s been called up by Germany again. He’s fought his way back and performed well. We’re happy about that. But that’s not a topic right now,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We had a plan that we wanted to extend with some guys who are important for the club’s future. We’ve always said very clearly what the current stance is. It’s all worked how we wanted. We had a plan that we’ve gone about in peace. We’ve also managed to make sure there’s calm within the team despite the discussions. The club comes first. I’m very pleased that these players are staying at Bayern beyond this summer.”
As far the recent contract extension for Joshua Kimmich goes, Eberl gave some insight into the negotiations.
“It was very much about perspectives. He wanted to know whether we would be competitive in the coming years. We communicated with him very transparently. He feels comfortable here. As far as the contract was concerned, it was rather simple. Those were the shortest talks. It’s different, but with a player like Joshua Kimmich, the complicated stuff, the contractual details, were simple,” said Eberl.
Finally, Eberl was asked about the status of Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and Eric Dier and indicated that there has been contact with most of the players.
“We’re thinking about things, have spoken with the relevant parties. There’s a special player in Thomas Müller, also with Leroy Sane. Eric Dier has also made his case with his performances. We’ll think about things soon and present our plan when we’ve made a decision,” said Eberl said.
