Chelsea are about to get one over Manchester United in the transfer market.
The two big English clubs have been involved in several key battles over the years. They have been rivals on the pitch, but they have gone head to head in transfers in the past too.
Neither Chelsea nor Manchester United are where they want to be in the table right now, but the Blues are in a much better position than Ruben Amorim’s side.
That may have helped them steal one of United’s key targets.
Chelsea are about to sign Manchester United target Geovany Quenda
Geovany Quenda is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe.
The versatile Sporting CP star, who is still only 17, has made a fantastic name for himself in Portugal, and he has been a wanted man.
TBR Football exclusively revealed that Amorim wanted to sign Quenda for Manchester United this summer. Fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool had also been offered a chance to land Quenda.
Amorim’s presence at Old Trafford made many believe that the Red Devils will be the favourites for the youngster’s signature as he had played under the United boss at Sporting.
However, it looks like Chelsea have beaten them in the race.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Blues have sealed a deal to sign Quenda after a ‘secret blitz’. The player has said yes to Enzo Maresca’s side and a medical has been completed too ahead of a move to West London in 2026.
Romano tweeted in the early hours of Friday morning: “BREAKING: Chelsea agree deal for Portuguese top talent Geovany Quenda, here we go!
“Medical DONE for Quenda after secret blitz, he will join Chelsea in 2026. Club to club agreement completed with Sporting and Quenda said yes to Chelsea project & Enzo Maresca’s plans.”
What Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has said about Quenda?
Quenda has impressed many people over the last year.
The 17-year-old has earned rave reviews for his performances at Sporting CP, and many in the game believe that he has a huge future ahead of him.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has called up Quenda to the national team already, and although the youngster is yet to make his debut, he has already caught his boss’ eye.
Speaking about Quenda last year, Martinez said, as per FootBoom: “National coaches always say that age is not a criterion. I like Quenda’s example because it exemplifies this perfectly.
“He has shown incredible personality, quality, and adaptability. A player who loves to create imbalances. Technical quality, but a quality that is not normal for someone at 17 years old. He had an excellent European Championship with the U17s.
“He has stepped into the first team of Sporting and demonstrated an astonishing personality. And now he has shown that he is ready for the national team. Great news for Portuguese football.”
