Fulham’s Antonee Robinson has quashed rumors of a potential transfer to Liverpool, despite acknowledging his family’s roots in the city. Born in Milton Keynes and raised in Merseyside, Robinson began his football journey with Everton at age 11 but never broke into the first team.
After a stint with Wigan Athletic, where he made his mark, Fulham snapped him up in 2021. The American international has since established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout left-backs, contributing 10 assists this season under Marco Silva, equalling the likes of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Brentford’s Mikel Damsgaard, and trailing only Mohamed Salah.
Despite his form and Andy Robertson’s less convincing performances, Robinson remains unfazed by the transfer talk with Jamie Carragher among those to praise him. Speaking to ESPN, he said: “I’ve been in the game long enough now to kind of know you have to block out the outside noise and things like that because I’ve been on the end of it when I’ve not been playing well. I saw criticism when I was younger, seeing people doubting me and things.”
Robinson offered: “So I know that there’s two sides to the coin. You just have to take everything with a grain of salt. You have to believe in yourself and when things are going bad, focus on yourself, and when things are going good, focus on keeping going.”
The left-back admitted to being aware of the Liverpool links, with his family — who are from the city — often sending him articles about a potential move to Anfield. However, he insisted that he tries not to pay attention to transfer speculation.
“Transfer rumors and stuff like that, I try not to look at,” he added. “Especially like with the Liverpool one all my friends and family are from Liverpool, so it’s more of them messaging me than me seeing newspaper stuff. And I have to say, ‘Look, it’s just, just a story in the paper and anyone who’s doing well is going to get linked to a team’.”
Robinson, who has made 29 appearances for Fulham this season, is instead focused on helping the Whites achieve a top-seven finish and secure European football. He will come up against Liverpool in a few weeks when the Reds travel to Craven Cottage.
Liverpool.com says: Robinson is having a great season but at 27 years of age, he is outside of the bracket that is likely to be considered at Anfield. Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, who is similarly as impressive but six years younger, is a much more likely target.
