The North Londoners put up an embarrassing display in the first leg in the Netherlands. They were nowhere near good enough and lost the game 1-0.

Tottenham’s board were not happy with Postecoglou after the game, and there was enormous pressure on the Australian’s shoulders ahead of the second leg.

Thankfully for him, his players turned up, and Spurs managed to win the game 3-1 on Thursday night.

Tottenham set new European record after win over AZ Alkmaar

Tottenham had to step up and deliver against AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday night, and they did just that.

Spurs looked a lot more solid at the back with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven starting again, while their midfield looked settled too.

Lucas Bergvall had another fine game, while Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison did well against the Dutch side as well.

The difference maker, however, was young Wilson Odobert, who scored a brace to help Tottenham go through to the next round of the competition.

The 20-year-old became the fifth Tottenham player under the age of 21 this season to score a goal in Europe.

According to Opta, that makes Spurs ‘the first side in major European competition history to have five players under the age of 21 score a goal in the same season’.

Will Lankshear, Damola Ajayi, Dane Scarlett and Mikey Moore are the other four young players who have found the net in Europe this season.

Archie Gray makes family history during Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar

Tottenham fans were upset to see Archie Gray on the bench against AZ Alkmaar.

The teenager has been one of Spurs’ best players this season, but Postecoglou left him on the bench against Bournemouth and only gave him around 30 minutes as a substitute on Thursday night.

Despite that, Gray managed to make family history against AZ.

Opta revealed on Thursday night that: “Aged 19 years and one day, Archie Gray becomes the youngest member of his family to play 10 games in major European competitions.”

Gray achieved that feat while being “younger than his grandfather Frank (20 years, 129 days) and great-uncle Eddie (19 years, 259 days) were on their 10th games.”
