Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah have both been called up by the senior England national team after Thomas Tuchel named his first squad in charge of the Three Lions.
But Harvey Elliott has missed out on a call-up and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury means he has not made the cut. Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson returns to the fold as an experienced midfield option.
Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal) and Dan Burn (Newcastle United) have both received their first senior call-ups. There is no room, though, for either Ivan Toney or Liam Delap.
Marcus Rashford, who has been looking rejuvenated since moving on loan to Aston Villa, is included in the squad again, with Tuchel appearing to favor experience. Former Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke is also picked.
England will take on Albania and Latvia at Wembley Stadium in World Cup qualifying. Liverpool boss Arne Slot will be hoping that his players can avoid injuries while on international duty ahead of the final run-in that should see the Reds seal the Premier League title.
Thomas Tuchel planned his squad announcement for Friday to take into account the English players playing on Thursday in Europe. Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea were all in action in the Europa League and Conference League.
Over the past few weeks, Tuchel has spoken to more than 55 players individually on the phone, according to the BBC. FA chief Mark Bullingham said Tuchel had been busy “building connections” and he has extensively planned his first training sessions with his new players, some of whom he worked with while he was at Chelsea.
