MATCH DAY! Bayern Munich vs. Union Berlin…
Bayern eyeing winger options for summer (@Plettigoal)
For months, it has been rumored that Bayern Munich is seeking to refresh the winger position.
It might be hard to clear room for new wingers given the clutter of Michael Olise, Leroy Sané, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, and Bryan Zaragoza (assuming he returns from his loan at Osasuna), but that is not stopping Bayern Munich from scoping Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, and Olympique Lyonnais’ Rayan Cherki:
At least one new winger is set to join FC Bayern in the upcoming summer transfer window, with various options being considered.
Jamie #Gittens and Nico #Williams remain high on the list, as exclusively revealed. How seriously Bayern will enter the race largely depends on the price, as their top priority remains Florian #Wirtz.
Bayern are also still monitoring Rayan #Cherki and have already gathered all relevant information about his future plans in January.
Cherki might be known more for his play as an attacking midfielder, but it is clear that that Bayern Munich wants a different look at the position. Can Max Eberl clear enough roster space to make it happen?

Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show: Union Berlin vs. Bayern Munich (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich is riding high coming off of a massive Champions League tie victory over Bayer Leverkusen, but the Bavarians have to maintain focus if they want to avoid what looks like an obvious trap game on the schedule.
With the international break looming, Vincent Kompany will have to ensure his team keeps its eye on an underachieving, but capable Union Berlin squad. We will dive deep into that and more during the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show. Here is what we have in tap:
- A look into where each team falls in the Bundesliga table and some discussion on the recent form of each side.
- A look back at the first game between the teams earlier this season.
- A look at the injury/suspension situations for both teams.
- A guess at Bayern Munich’s starting XI.
- A prediction on the match.

Leipzig-Simons looking more like separation this summer (Get German Football News)
Things continue to get worse for RB Leipzig and Xavi Simons per Sport Bild:
Sport Bild reports that it is increasingly likely that Xavi Simons will leave RB Leipzig in the summer, despite the club only signing him permanently earlier this year.
If RB Leipzig fails to qualify for the Champions League, which looks increasingly possible week by week, then it is very likely that Simons will leave in the summer. Recently there have been rumours that the 21-year-old has caused disruption in the dressing room.
If a sale materialises, Leipzig are more than likely to make a profit on the Dutch international, and he is already attracting interest from the Premier League. Bild reports that Leipzig are interested in Mainz’s Nadiem Amiri. Whether he is a replacement or not is yet to be seen, but if Mainz qualify for the Champions League in Leipzig’s place, there would be little understanding in leaving the club that helped revive Amiri’s career.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Simons. It was always curious why Paris Saint-Germain was always so eager to send such a talent out on loan. Regardless, if Bayern Munich whiffs on a deal for Florian Wirtz, it could look over toward Simons.

Gnabry makes commitment to health (Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich attacker Serge Gnabry recently spoke about his focus on his health.
“For me, my health is the basis for everything — not only as a professional footballer, but also to be able to play at a high level in the long term. That’s why, in addition to intensive training on the pitch, I also pay a lot of attention to how I conduct myself off the pitch. Nutrition is a very important point,” said Gnabry. “I make sure that I eat a balanced and nutrient-rich diet to give my body the energy it needs for the stress of training and games. It’s not just about what I eat, but also when I eat it to optimally support my metabolism and performance. In addition to physical fitness, mental training is also an essential part of my preparation.
“I make sure that my head is just as fit as my body. This means that off the pitch, I consciously switch off and concentrate on things that give me joy, like spending time with my family, friends or working on my foundation. It’s important to let go of the stress and pressure of the job every now and then and then return with renewed focus and fresh motivation.”
Vinicius, Real set for more talks in summer (ESPN)
Amid rumors of massive proposals coming from the Middle East, Real Madrid is going to meet with Vinicius Jr. to talk over the player’s future this summer:
Negotiations between Real Madrid and Vinícius Júnior are set to resume in the summer, reports AS. The 24-year-old’s representatives are believed to be looking for a salary increase of an extra €5m per season and are said to have informed Los Blancos of their demands. Vinícius’ current deal is reportedly worth €17m per year, but he has been linked with a world-record offer from Saudi Arabia that is somewhere in the region of a five-year, €1bn deal.
Bavarian Podcast Works — Special Edition: Breaking down the German national team’s call-up list (Bavarian Football Works)
Former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann selected his German national team squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League quarterfinals tie with Italy.
With so many injuries and illnesses to deal with, Nagelsmann probably had to operate a bit outside his comfort zone with some of his selections, but — in the end — came up with the concoction that he thinks will best position the German national team for success against a very solid side from Italy.
This is what we have on tap for this Special Edition episode of Bavarian Podcast Works:
- A reaction to the Bayern Munich selections on the squad.
- Commentary on each position group.
- Some final takeaways on the selections and what to expect.
Amorim wants reunion with Gyökeres (ESPN)
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim wants to get back together with his old striker — Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres:
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim wants to reunite with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres in the summer, according to TEAMtalk. The Red Devils are reported to have “concrete interest” in the 26-year-old amid their search for a forward, but it is believed that the Liga Portugal side will demand that his €100 million release clause is activated if they are to let him go. Three other clubs are said to be monitoring the current situation of Gyökeres, while the Old Trafford hierarchy could be forced to move “several” players on before they are able to meet his valuation.
Many teammates have impressed Dier at Bayern (Säbener 51 via @iMiaSanMia)
When asked about which teammates have impressed him since he arrived at Bayern Munich, Eric Dier was effusive with praise.
“Oh, I could list them all. Joshua Kimmich didn’t surprise me because I already knew about him, but it’s impressive to see him every day – his consistency, his attitude, his preparation and the way he works in every training session,” said Dier. “The same goes for Thomas Müller. He embodies the club in a unique way. He conveys what Bayern Munich means through his behaviour, his training work and his games.
“It’s great for every new player to have someone like him to look up to. You immediately understand what Bayern is all about. And then there’s Manuel Neuer. He really surprised me – not because of his quality, of course I was aware of that, but because he is much calmer than I would’ve expected. He radiates an incredible calmness. But do you know what fascinates me most about him? His passion for training. He’s 38-years-old and has won everything, really everything, but his love of football and his ambition are undiminished.
“That also explains why he’s still playing at this level. For me, he’s the best goalkeeper I’ve ever seen. And when you see him in training, you understand why. His attitude and daily commitment are simply impressive. Figures like Kimmich, Müller and Neuer are great role models, definitely – not just for us players, but also for people outside of football.”
