Arsenal are gearing up for the arrival of Andrea Berta as their new sporting director.
The Gunners have been keen to wrap up a deal for Edu Gaspar’s replacement at the Emirates, and that process is expected to be completed very soon.
Berta is going to join Arsenal after rejecting other offers, and all eyes will be on which players the Italian will sign in the summer transfer window.
Along with arrivals, there will be a few departures as well. David Ornstein has suggested that there could be one big sale too.
Arsenal could sell a ‘notable player’ this summer.
Arsenal need reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch.
A new striker is the absolute priority, while the Gunners need help in midfield too as Thomas Partey and Jorginho could leave the club as free agents this summer.
TBR Football revealed that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid want to sign Partey.
To add to that, the Gunners will need a backup goalkeeper, a winger and potentially even a new defender as several players on the left side of the backline could leave.
That will require a lot of money, so Ornstein has claimed that it would not shock him one bit if the Gunners end up selling one of their big players.
The journalist said in a Q&A on The Athletic: ” I think if Arsenal are going to commit huge expense on a striker, and if Zubimendi gets done, it’s surely inevitable there needs to be resource raised from a sale or multiple.
“It wouldn’t shock me to see a notable player depart this summer but, at the time of writing, I don’t know who that might be.”
The seven players who could leave Arsenal this summer
A number of players could leave Arsenal this summer – as many as seven. But, we just can’t see any of them bringing in massive money.
Partey and Jorginho could leave on a free transfer, while Kieran Tierney will be doing the same after he agreed a pre-contract to re-join Celtic.
Defenders Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko are likely to be sold, as is Takehiro Tomiyasu after failing to overcome his injury woes. But, none of them will go for a big fee.
Leandro Trossard could be the biggest name to leave Arsenal in the summer. The Belgian will enter the final year of his contract, and he has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia in the past.
However, once again, we just can’t see him going for a huge price.
