Liverpool are lining up a ‘club record’ bid for an ex-Premier League star, according to stunning reports.
Arne Slot has worked wonders at Liverpool since replacing Jurgen Klopp.
His side remain in the driving seat for the Premier League title, and he can secure his first piece of silverware when the Reds face Newcastle United in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
And Slot has done so without spending much money in the transfer window, having only recruited Federico Chiesa, who cost £12.5 million from Juventus last summer.
But Liverpool could be active in the summer when the transfer window reopens – especially if Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract at the end of the season, leaves Anfield this summer.
If Salah does walk away from Merseyside, then it appears Slot and Co. have a target in mind to replace his goal-scoring exploits.
According to Sam Maguire of Anfield Watch, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Julian Alvarez, even though it will take a bid in excess of £100 million to snap him up.
Alvarez was on the club’s transfer wish-list last summer, but a deal failed to materialise.
Per the report, Gonzalo Siegrist, a senior Liverpool scout, had been pushing for Alvarez since his days with River Plate.
The 25-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in a transfer worth £81.8 million last summer.

But before he secured a move to Spain, Liverpool held talks with Man City.
However, an agreement between Liverpool and Man City couldn’t be found.
The Blues wanted a deal to include Luis Diaz heading to the Etihad as well as a significant fee.
Liverpool weren’t against parting ways with Diaz but the deal had to work for them.
It is claimed Man City viewed him at £45 million while Liverpool valued the Colombian closer to the £60 million mark.
A deal couldn’t be agreed as Atletico eventually signed Alvarez.
But the player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has confirmed Liverpool’s pursuit last summer.
“I confirm that Liverpool were interested in Julian last season,” Fernando Hidalgo told WinWinAllSports. “As for the future, this is not the right time to talk about it, as Julian is competing in important tournaments and is fully focused on them.”
Alvarez, who was embroiled in huge controversy in his side’s Champions League elimination to Real Madrid, has starred for Atletico this season.
He has scored 22 goals in 43 games in all competitions.
