Liverpool supporters admitted that Newcastle United’s players seemed to simply “want it more” than the Reds in the Carabao Cup final – as the Magpies pulled off a famous victory at Wembley.
The travelling Toon fans celebrated wildly as Eddie Howe’s men ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy with a 2-1 win over the Reds. Dan Burn opened the scoring for his hometown club before half-time, before forward Alexander Isak doubled the lead for Newcastle after the interval.
Although Liverpool eventually halved the deficit through Federico Chiesa in injury time, the Italian’s strike was not enough to help spark a comeback from Arne Slot’s team. As the result was confirmed at the national stadium, Kopites could not hide their dejection as they debated why their beloved side fell to a wounding defeat in London.
Taking to X, one fan wrote: “Demolished from start to end. Massive congrats to Newcastle and Howe. Brilliantly set up and was clear they wanted it more. Huge celebrations in Newcastle tonight and for weeks to come. Deserved. As for us , lots to learn and lots to improve on a title winning season.”
A second supporter then gave a similar response, saying: “Newcastle wanted it more. Poor performance again. Hopefully we recover all the break and get back on track in the league,” while a third said: “In a modern game with so much analysis, I simply think Newcastle just wanted it more.”
A fourth said: “We’ve been woeful today from the off, we’ve had 5 days rest so no excuses about being tired. Newcastle have deserved it today, so credit where it’s due. They wanted it so much more, all over the park, so no arguments from me that’s for sure. Win the league, I’ll take that me UTFR.”

One devastated fan also wrote: “Fair play to Newcastle. You couldn’t begrudge them that at all. They turned up and wanted it a lot more. They’ll probably never have an easier cup final again. Liverpool, on the other hand, need to go away and regroup because that was as bad as it gets. Embarrassing!”
Meanwhile, one anguished supporter said: “Can’t believe we’ve turned up to a cup final at Wembley like this. Everyone of them should be embarrassed, not one good performance out there. Newcastle wanted it more. Simple,” before a frustrated fan added: “From the first minute of the game it was clear Newcastle wanted it more.”
“Newcastle have deserved this they look like the wanted it more from minute 1 . Just shows you it’s not all about quality. Desire is worth a goal start for me. Spurs should take note,” wrote another.
The Magpies avenged their loss in the 2023 edition of the Carabao Cup final, while the club earned silverware for a first time since their Fairs Cup triumph back in 1969. In terms of a domestic cup win, this was the Toon’s first since their famous victory in the 1955 FA Cup final.
