The director of sport was upset with just single point despite Bayern’s dominance of the game

Bayern Munich had to walk with just one point after a hard fought clash with Union Berlin. The travelling Bavarians had a challenge to take on. Facing Union Berlin in their home is no mean task and Bayern was up to it. While opportunities to break down the steely Union defence were far and few, Bayern took their chance when it came and scored their lone goal of the game. Union however responded with vigor and found their equalizer before the end of the game, resulting in a draw.

Board member for sport at Bayern, Max Eberl gave his take on this game. He was pleased with Leroy Sane’s goal scoring instincts. The now 13th placed Union were under risk of relegation and this was a crucial game for them. Their non-stop attempts in fighting back eventually bore fruit. Their 83rd minute equalizer brought them back into the game. The xG figures were 0.72 vs 1.50 in favor of Bayern. The dominance could however not be converted into a win. Max Eberl lamented that exact point.

In the post match interview( as captured by @imiasanmia) Eberl said: “In the first half, we didn’t create many chances, but we stayed calm and knew we’d get our opportunities. It was clear that it wouldn’t be easy. But then we got better into the game and scored, exactly as we had planned, down the wing with a deep run. Leroy, which makes me very happy, seized the moment. Union then pushed forward a bit, we didn’t manage things well for a few minutes, and then the equalizer happened. The draw is frustrating, given the dominance we had.”
