According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, West Ham United are interested in signing Lyon striker Georges Mikautadze in the summer. The Premier League club are ready to spend as much as €35 million to bring the player.
The Rise of Georges Mikautadze
Georges Mikautadze signed for Lyon in the summer of 2024 from Metz. Since then, he has been a solid performer for the club. He has been scoring goals regular and his performances have attracted interest from multiple clubs.
Mikautadze has already scored 12 goals in 36 games apart from providing six assists. He is averaging 1.6 shots, 0.6 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Georgian international striker often drops deep to receive the ball and then link up with his teammates. He has a good hold of the ball and carries it nicely as well. He is clinical with his finishes and is also strong in 1v1 situations.
Georges Mikautadze can actually be a good signing
West Ham United wanted to sign Georges Mikautadze last year but the deal didn’t go through. However, they continue to target him as the club is in need of a striker going into the summer transfer window.
While Evan Ferguson is likely to return to Brighton at the end of the season, Niclas Fullkrug has struggled to make an impact since arriving from Borussia Dortmund. Moreover, Danny Ings and Michail Antonio are entering into the twilight of their respective careers.
Hence, it makes sense for the Hammers to go after a lucrative striker to solve the problem for the long term. In that aspect, Mikautadze could be a great choice as he is a capable player. He has all the qualities to succeed in the Premier League.
West Ham United are ready to offer around €35 million to sign the 24-year-old. As Lyon are going through a financial crisis, they might accept the offer.
