Manchester United’s rising star Dermot Mee might be in line for his debut against Leicester City if Andre Onana isn’t passed fit. The Red Devils are already down two keepers, with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton out injured.

Last month, Ruben Amorim updated on their status: “Tom is making a recovery. Again, I don’t have a day, but they [Heaton and Bayindir] are recovering.”

With both Bayindir and Heaton out of action, Onana’s availability hangs in the balance for the away game at Leicester City after he was said to be feeling sick. United could turn to either academy keeper Dermot Mee or Elyh Harrison should Onana miss the game.

Mee, who penned a new deal with United last August, was part of the youthful squad that jetted off to San Diego for a training camp and a pre-season match against Wrexham, although he didn’t get game time.

Since joining the Reds in 2019, Mee has been a regular presence in first-team training at Carrington, honing his skills alongside the senior goalies and offering support.

Mee joined United in 2019 and has been loaned out once, to non-league side Altrincham, where he made four appearances in the National League. This loan stint followed brief periods with Fulham’s academy, Trafford FC, Runcorn Linnets and Witton Albion.

Speaking ahead of the game with Leicester, Amorim said: “Everything is important and we need to continue with this feeling that we can win games and games after games.

“It doesn’t matter the time of rest or the time to prepare the next game. We can do it, and we showed against Arsenal.

“We have to be humble and forget that, forget the table and face Leicester like we faced Real Sociedad. We just need to win to improve our position in the table. The most important thing is to continue with this feeling of winning and that we are improving as a team.

“I feel in the last game that we understand better the idea of what we want to do. We are better understanding the plan for the games. We are giving more time to the team to win or draw games.

“We are not suffering one goal and then losing our minds and suffering another goal, so we are understanding the moments of the game, and also we are understanding better the way we want to play.”
