Flattery will get you everywhere, Dier. Do keep going.
What a career turnaround it has been for Eric Dier. Banished to the bench at Tottenham Hotspur, deemed unsuitable for their style of play and even seen as a little bit a joke figure in England, the Englishman subsequently received an offer to join Bayern Munich and grabbed it with both hands. It was a huge step for the former Sporting CP player, leaving England for the first time in nearly 10 years, but he hardly showed it as he has immediately bedded in and has proven to be an immensely valuable player for the Bavarians.
Having now spent over a year at the club, Dier sat down with club magazine Säbener 51, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, to talk about the surprises he experienced upon joining the club. Dier took the chance to talk about what impressed him upon joining Die Rekordmeister:
“Bayern is such a big club that you basically already know what to expect. But it’s nice that the image the club conveys on the outside also corresponds to reality on the inside. What particularly impresses me are the Champions League evenings at the Allianz Arena. The atmosphere and the whole setting are extraordinary, even for players who have already seen a lot. That’s when you really realise the charisma of this club.”
Having already experienced a Champions League semifinal from the pitch of the Allianz Arena against Real Madrid, Dier knows what he is talking about. He and the rest of the team will hope to continue the run of Champions League evenings in the Allianz Arena, ending with the 2025 Finale Dahoam. And winning that game, of course.
