The German national team boss isn’t interested in the VfB Stuttgart winger at the moment.
Chris Führich’s performances for VfB Stuttgart in the 2023/24 season were quickly noticed and rewarded. Führich received several call-ups from former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann as well as the EURO 2024 home tournament. However, Führich has now been omitted from Nagelsmann’s squad for the March international break where Germany will take on Italy.
Nagelsmann didn’t waste words on describing why Führich was left in Stuttgart for this international break.
“With Chris, it’s the case that he’s a fast player who gets a relatively large amount of playing time. Nevertheless, things aren’t going particularly well at VfB. And then, when looking at the individual player’s performance, Chris’s output is currently too low for me,” Nagelsmann told Bild. “It’s not just about assists and goals, but also about perceived dangerous situations.”
It is clear that Nagelsmann sees his positives, but with just one goal so far for Stuttgart this season, the stats cannot be ignored. Poor body language on the pitch is not serving the winger any favors either.
Führich and Brandt are the only players that Nagelsmann has opted to leave behind for the Nations League quarter-finals, as the German coach didn’t want to shake things up too much. That speaks volumes about how the winger as played so far this season. With emerging young talent and players such as Sané returning into form, it is possible fans won’t see Führich around the national team for a while.
