Lionel Messi raises concern in Argentina as World Cup Qualifiers participation reportedly in doubt

With World Cup Qualifier games against Uruguay and Brazil approaching, Lionel Messi has raised concerns within the Argentina national team as his participation remains uncertain.

Argentina is preparing for crucial CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil, aiming to maintain their position at the top of the standings. However, Lionel Messi’s availability for the upcoming matches is reportedly in doubt, raising concerns among the national team and its fans.

While Argentina’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup is not under immediate threat, excitement had been building ahead of the highly anticipated clash against Brazil on home soil — a game where fans were eager to witness Messi in action. Now, a last-minute setback could force the Argentine star to miss the international break entirely.

According to DSports Radio’s Nani Senra, Messi’s participation is uncertain after he reportedly felt discomfort during Inter Miami’s recent MLS match against Atlanta United, where the Herons won 2-1 away.

On Sunday, Messi delivered an impressive performance, scoring a stunning goal and completing the full 90 minutes despite battling muscular fatigue in recent weeks. However, as reported by ESPN Argentina, a post-match MRI revealed a minor injury in his adductor, putting his national team call-up in jeopardy.

In the coming hours, a decision will be made regarding whether Messi will risk traveling to join Lionel Scaloni’s squad. If the soccer legend is ultimately ruled out, it would deal a significant blow to Argentina’s plans.

More injury woes for Argentina

Adding to Scaloni’s concerns, Argentina has suffered another setback with the absence of Paulo Dybala. The AS Roma forward, considered one of Messi’s natural replacements, underwent tests on Monday that revealed an injury to the semitendinosus tendon in his left thigh.

As a result, Dybala is expected to be sidelined for at least a month, ruling him out of the World Cup Qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil — further limiting Scaloni’s attacking options in what could be a challenging international window.
