Real Madrid Want 22-Year-Old Full Back From Arsenal: Should The Gunners Sell Him?

4 Min Read

Arsenal might not be able to win the Premier League title again this season, as they trail Liverpool by 12 points after the end of 29 matches. The Gunners will, however, be planning for the next season and they will look to strengthen their squad more to fight for the upcoming season. It is not just the signings; they are expected to lose a few players in the summer transfer window as well as several of their first-team players who are on the radar of multiple clubs.

Real Madrid Want Riccardo Calafiori From Arsenal:

Spanish news outlet Fichajes has reported that Real Madrid want to sign the 22-year-old left-back of Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori. He was sensational for Bologna in the Serie A and for the national team in Euro 2024 before he signed for the North London club last summer for €45 million. The player has not had enough game time this season as academy star Myles Lewis-Skelly has featured in the left-back spot.

The report has reiterated that Arsenal won’t be looking to sell the player in the summer and even if they do, they would be demanding at least €80 million for his sale. Madrid does have the money to spend but it is not likely that they will spend such an audacious amount to sign a left-back.

Riccardo Calafiori has conceded 12 goals and kept 5 clean sheets in 17 matches in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. That means when he is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 77 minutes. The 22-year-old’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 3 for this season and he has played a total of 927 minutes in the Premier League this season at the time of writing.

Riccardo Calafiori is a gem on the pitch. He is tall, strong, and quick—perfect for a modern defender. The 22-year-old’s passing is sharp, slicing through lines with ease. He is comfy on the ball, often stepping into midfield like it’s no big deal. Defensively, Calafiori is a beast—tackling hard and reading plays smartly. His versatility is gold; he can slot in at centre-back or leftback without blinking. At 22, the Italian’s energy and grit stand out. He is two-footed, too and that makes it tricky for the opponents.

Should Arsenal sell him?

Arsenal shouldn’t even think about selling him, despite Real Madrid sniffing around this summer. He is a rare talent—young, adaptable, and already impacting games. The Gunners need depth to challenge for titles, and Calafiori is their future. If Arsenal cash the player now then it will be shortsightedness; he’s worth way more than €80 million in potential. Madrid can wait—Arsenal’s building something big, and he’s a cornerstone.
