The Beckenbauer Cup took us back…

The Beckenbauer Cup has us all feeling a little nostalgic and it brought up a fun idea — if you could bring back any Bayern Munich player from the last decade to be a part of this season’s team, who would it be? Bear in mind. this player would be in their prime.

There are several candidates that popped into my head:

  • Robert Lewandowski: The idea of having “Prime Lewandowski” back in the fold is certainly appealing, but with Harry Kane in tow, the Polish Hitman would be a luxury. (Prime Lewy > Prime Kane, though).
  • Arjen Robben: Robben was a relentless, unstoppable force, who would instantly inject creativity and a sense of lethality into the attack. If I was not factoring in squad planning, this would be my personal selection. I would bring back Prime Robben in a heartbeat.
  • Javi Martinez: The thought of Martinez in his prime, is very enticing. A defensive stalwart, Martinez would allow Joshua Kimmich to roam forward freely and bolster the attack, while also adding a true defensive presence in front of the center-backs.
  • Thiago Alcântara: Imagine getting this wizard back while in his prime?
  • Mats Hummels: As we are now trending more toward need, Hummels filling the role of center-back on the left side would be an immediate upgrade to the backline. In addition, his vocal presence and ability to lead would be a welcomed addition to a defense without a true leader.

Those are all awesome possibilities and as much as I would take Robben back as my own personal pick, there is another player, who would fill a void and give this team the fire that that it sometimes lacks — Franck Ribery.

As a left wing, Ribery would immediately be the best option at the position on the squad and would solidify the starting XI. His creativity, footwork, passion, fire, and scoring ability would complete this Bayern Munich squad and make it the favorite to win the Champions League.

BFW Community…who would you bring back in their prime?
