Darwin Nunez is one of the most perplexing players to have played in the Premier League in recent history.
On one hand, it is impossible to deny that the Liverpool striker’s movement and positioning are top-class and all the signs certainly point towards him scoring goals galore eventually.
But simultaneously, Darwin Nunez remains profligate in front of goal and as much one can work on their finishing, it seems to be a trait that either one has or they do not — and the Urguayan does not seem to.
Jamie Carragher feels Nunez is not “good enough” for Liverpool and many might agree with the Liverpool legend’s claim.
The other theory could be that Nunez’s confidence is shot which is why has not kicked on at all this campaign.

Darwin Nunez says “the ball doesn’t want to go in” to explain his struggles
But only Nunez knows why he has underwhelmed so far at Liverpool.
Speaking to Uruguayan outlet El Pais, the Reds number nine was asked about why he is struggling for form and his explanation was “the ball doesn’t want to go in.”
However, Nunez did admit that he is not in the best form to say the least.

“I know I’m not performing as well as I should; it’s difficult because when you’re doing well, like when I came on against PSG [in the first leg], your confidence changes, with the idea of being able to break it in the next match. But then you get a slump, and I’m always there to help my teammates come back to the national team.”

How many big chances has Darwin Nunez missed at Liverpool?
From day one, Nunez has not been a clinical finisher at Liverpool.
In the 2022/2023 season, the Penarol-born forward ranked in third place in the Premier League for the most big chances missed in the Premier League with 20 to his name.
During his second campaign, Nunez was placed in second place as he missed 24.
This term, Nunez is ranked in 45th place with 10 big chances missed in the league.
But that might simply be due to his lack of playing time, with Liverpool ready to sell Nunez for 60 million.
