Mathys Tel has had something of an up-and-down start to life at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tel dramatically joined Tottenham on deadline day in the January transfer window, but since his arrival in north London, he hasn’t made a massive impact.

Indeed, Tel is yet to score a goal in the Premier League, but there have been some bright sparks.

Tel has received praise for some of his performances for Tottenham so far, but the jury is still very much out on the young Frenchman.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Dan Kilpatrick has been discussing Spurs’ loss to Fulham at the weekend, and he says that after the game, he heard a couple of officials from Fulham discussing Mathys Tel.

What Fulham officials were heard saying about Mathys Tel

Kilpatrick shared what he heard the Fulham officials saying about the attacker.

According to the journalist, even those from Fulham were split on the striker.

One stated that they didn’t see what Tel brought as a player, while the other claimed that they thought he was pretty good against Fulham.

“I mean, it was interesting after the match, there was a couple of Fulham, I don’t know what to call them really, officials, let’s say, and they were just talking about Tel. And they were like, what do you think of Tel? And one of them was like, I don’t see it at all,” Kilpatrick said.

“I don’t see it, 60 million, no way. And the other one was like, I don’t know, actually. I thought he was pretty good. He’s pretty bright. He’s obviously young, but you could see his, you know, you could see his talents sort of thing. So, you know, the jury is still out.”

Tel seemed to divide opinion among the Fulham staff, and it’s easy to understand why.

Indeed, the attacker had an up-and-down game against the Whites on Sunday.

At one point, he got a great shot off and forced Bernd Leno into a good save, and, at times, his movement was bright.

However, at the same time, Tel only had one shot during the game, and Spurs failed to make very much happen during the match.

Tel’s stats against Fulham make for interesting reading. They were solid if not spectacular, and you’d expect better from a player who Spurs may spend upwards of £40m on in the summer.

However, at the same time, this young man is just 19 and he’s already performing respectably at Premier League level.

The jury is certainly out on Tel, and it will be interesting to see what Spurs do with the forward in the summer.
