Liverpool is going to win the Premier League but when the summer comes, there could be some really meaningful changes made on Arne Slot’s roster. As a disappointing week has shown, there remains plenty of room for improvement.
At left-back and number nine, it should be possible to bring in fresh faces who can make the starting XI immediately. And then in midfield, Liverpool needs a bit more depth with Ryan Gravenberch among those whose energy levels have dropped off substantially in the last couple of months.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. Another claim about a full-back has been made while a holding midfielder is back on the rumor mill again.
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth)
Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is “edging closer” to a “blockbuster” transfer to Liverpool in the summer, according to TeamTalk. It claims he will hold meetings with his agents this week to sort out a move.
Real Madrid is supposedly interested in Kerkez as well having missed out on Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. The 21-year-old is expected to leave the Cherries when the season comes to a close.
The new Liverpool home shirt for the 2024/2025 season features a chrome yellow pattern design and is a modern take on the legendary ’84 home shirt – a season which saw the Reds become European Champions for the fourth time in Rome and the first English Club to win a treble of major honours. Kerkez has had an exceptional season and a move to Liverpool would make lots of sense. He appears to be the leading contender to come in and offer an improvement on Andy Roberton.
Liverpool.com says: Kerkez would offer an immediate upgrade in the Liverpool starting XI and there are not many areas of the field where there are deals to be done in that mold. It feels close to a no-brainer even at what will be a $52m (£40m/€48m)-plus fee.
Morten Frendrup (Genoa)
Liverpool is considering making a move for Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup this summer, according to Juve Live. Linked with an Anfield switch before, the $33m (£25m/€30m)-rated Danish international is highly thought of in Italy.
The 23-year-old operates mainly as a holding midfielder, though he can play a bit further forward too. Frendrup has impressed with his physicality and technique in Serie A, though it would be a big step up to join Liverpool.
Liverpool.com says: Bringing in another number six option to cover for Gravenberch should be a must when the season ends. Wataru Endo has his skillset but it is too different to make him a realistic regular starter. Slot has barely used the Japanese in his starting XI and Gravenberch has looked very tired as a result of being overused.
