Man United transfer news: Kobbie Mainoo one of six players up for sale this summer?

3 Min Read

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly one of six players who will be put up for sale during the summer transfer window.

Earlier this month, Sir Jim Ratcliffe laid bare the club’s ongoing financial struggles, claiming that in the region of £89m was due to be paid to other clubs for instalments agreed when signing players in the past.

As such, United will not be in a position to spend freely during the off-season, despite the desire of Ruben Amorim to stamp his mark on the squad.

However, there will naturally be opportunities to generate income through player sales in an effort to compile a group capable of returning to the top half of the Premier League table.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, who was commenting on X, Mainoo is one of six players who will effectively be placed on the transfer list.

Contract issues to accelerate transfer?

There have been reports in recent weeks which have indicated that Mainoo wants a substantial wage increase to commit his future to United, something which is not seen as viable.

As a result, the Red Devils are ready to give the green light to the sale who has failed to make a sustained impact under Erik ten Hag or Amorim during 2024-25.

United are said to value the 19-year-old in the region of £70m, yet it is questionable whether that price-tag is realistic when just 19 starts and six substitute outings have been made this campaign.

The other five names reportedly on the list of potential outgoings are Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Antony and Marcus Rashford.

Will United part ways with all six?

Club officials will take encouragement from how Antony and Rashford are flourishing during their respective loan stints at Real Betis and Aston Villa.

While Betis realistically do not have the finances to sign Antony on a permanent deal, Villa allegedly have a £40m option to sign Rashford.

Lindelof and Eriksen will see their contracts come to an end in June, and there are no plans for extensions to be offered.

Casemiro has already insisted that he plans to see out his own deal at United, which runs until 2026, and it remains to be seen whether any offers will arrive that may tempt the Brazil international into a change of heart.
