Manchester United and Arsenal find themselves on opposite ends of the spectrum in the Premier League table but the age-old rivals share a common problem in the striker department.
Ruben Amorim is working with two numbers nines in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who have a combined six goals in the league this season.
For Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, while the injured duo of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have been huge misses for several weeks now, both players can perhaps be upgraded upon as they have never been guaranteed goalscorers. Andrea Berta eyes a new striker at Arsenal ahead of a summer transfer window where he could spend in excess of £300 million.
Manchester United will be hoping to sign a new centre-forward themselves as they are yet to have a world-class marksman in their ranks since Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Ruben Amorim has his sights set on Victor Osimhen, who he reportedly believed could transform this United side.
The good news for both clubs is that in their hunt for a brand-new leading man up front, Benjamin Sesko could be on the market this summer. Sesko is one of the finest strikers in European football and at 21 years of age, the world is his oyster.
Manchester United start talks with Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal have worked the hardest to sign Sesko out of any player on their transfer shortlist, whose £58.9 release clause becomes active this summer.
So much so that Arsenal are confident Sesko will sign for them ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
However, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Manchester United have begun talks to sign the RB Leipzig goalscorer.
“Manchester United are looking to strengthen their attack in the summer and are intensively scouting the market. Talks have already begun.”
“From the Bundesliga, the Red Devils are closely monitoring Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen remain high on their list.”
How Mikel Arteta could help Manchester United sign Benjamin Sesko
But Sesko’s agents have encouraged Arsenal’s approach come the summer.
Considering the Gunners have challenged for the title for three seasons in a row now while the Red Devils are 15th in the league, perhaps the Slovakian international could consider a move to the Emirates Stadium over Old Trafford a no-brainer.
However, Sesko is not Mikel Arteta’s ideal striker as his ideal signing would be Alexander Isak.
Manchester United could potentially capitalise on Arteta’s preference and make Sesko feel wanted by pulling out all the stops to sign him. But the worry for both teams could be that TBR Football exclusively revealed that Liverpool have opened talks to sign Sesko as well.
