Cristian Romero didn’t look particularly comfortable in Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Fulham raising concerns over his fitness and Argentina have made a decision on the defender.
Cristian Romero went down around the half-hour mark at Craven Cottage with an issue but he ended up continuing until the 68th minute.
When Ange Postecoglou took him off, the defender looked in slight discomfort, although it was reported that Romero hadn’t suffered a new injury.
However, the latest coming from the Argentinian national camp suggests that the 26-year-old still isn’t 100 percent fit with their latest plan for his involvement in upcoming matches emerging.
Cristian Romero expected to play just one match for Argentina
Cristian Romero is expected to play just one match for Argentina in their World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Uruguay, according to DSports Radio.
The defender’s physical conditions has meant that Lionel Scaloni and the national team have determined he is unlikely to be fit enough for both matches.
Tottenham were fine with Romero being selected by Argentina despite him only just returning from several months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
There were calls for Ange Postecoglou to tell Romero not to travel, however, the North London club have no issue with him playing for the national team.
It looks like Argentina plan to be careful with the defender as he is set to feature in just one of their upcoming matches over the next fortnight.
How Cristian Romero proved his importance to Tottenham against Fulham
Tottenham looked considerably less likely to concede when Romero was on the pitch against Fulham and as took as he was taken off, his absence was felt.
Both of Fulham’s goals came whilst Archie Gray and Ben Davies formed Spurs’ centre-back pairing and made a mockery of Micky van de Ven being left on the bench.
Tottenham fans were left bemused by Postecoglou’s decision to bring off Romero without replacing him with Van de Ven who looked primed to be introduced.
