Virgil van Dijk’s Liverpool future has been in the air for several months now.
The Dutchman has been at Anfield for over seven years, and he has arguably been the biggest reason why the Reds have been so successful.
Van Dijk has been amazing this season as well, but he saw his Liverpool side bow out of both, the Champions League and the Carabao Cup in the space of a few days.
The focus is on the Premier League now, but Van Dijk’s future still remains unclear as he will be a free agent in the summer.
Virgil van Dijk feels his time at Liverpool is ‘over’
Liverpool have found themselves in a terrible position with respect to player contracts.
Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all become free agents this summer, while Ibrahima Konate’s future is up in the air too as he will enter the final year of his deal.
The focus has been on the big three, and Liverpool have been trying hard to extend Van Dijk’s contract, along with the other two.
However, no agreement has been reached yet, and Sacha Tavolieri has now claimed on Sky Sports that the end could be near.
The journalist reveals that ‘sources close to the locker room report that the Dutch central defender would like to experience one last adventure abroad before ending his professional career’.
It has further been claimed that Van Dijk ‘feels his time is over’ at Liverpool and the next few months could be his last at Anfield.
The Reds, however, have not given up. TBR Football exclusively revealed that Liverpool will use this international break to convince Van Dijk’s camp to extend his deal.
The huge offer Van Dijk has received to leave Liverpool
When a ‘world-class‘ player like Van Dijk becomes available on a free transfer, several wealthy clubs stand up and take notice.
That is exactly what has happened.
The report claims that Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia are keen to sign Van Dijk and have even presented him with an offer of €20 million-a-year net salary.
But, Van Dijk reportedly favours a move to the United States to play in the MLS, where his good pal Kevin De Bruyne is also expected to go to this summer.
The onus is on Liverpool now to change his mind and convince him to extend his stay at the club.
