2 more clubs join race for Liverpool star who may have just played his last game for club

Caoimhin Kelleher will not be short of options in the summer, with the Liverpool goalkeeper looking as though he may have just played his final game for the club.

The Republic of Ireland international was once again handed the gloves for another Carabao Cup final on Sunday, although it wasn’t to be a hat-trick of triumphs at Wembley for him. Having been the hero against Chelsea in 2022 and 2024, Kelleher couldn’t do anything to prevent a sup-par Liverpool from falling to defeat against Newcastle this time.

With just nine Premier League games remaining now and the Reds looking to cross the finish line as soon as possible in the title race, it’s unlikely we’ll see Kelleher in action for his club again this season as Alisson Becker takes his usual spot back in the side. That is likely to mean we’ve just seen his last appearance for Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has made no secret of his desire to become a No.1, and has also suggested he wants to move away from Anfield in order to realize that dream. With Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive on Merseyside from Valencia during the summer, it seems Liverpool is prepping itself for Kelleher’s departure.

Considering his contract expires next year, the upcoming summer transfer window represents the Reds’ last opportunity to get some money for the Irishman. Arguably being the best back-up goalkeeper in the Premier League will certainly help their efforts to get their desired fee, with plenty of clubs already lining up for his services.

The likes of Celtic, Nottingham Forest and Brentford have all been strongly linked over the past year or so, while Chelsea has also been touted as a possible destination. Considering Kelleher is far superior to Robert Sanchez, there’s little doubt that Liverpool’s No.2 would be an upgrade on the Blues’ No.1.

Now, according to GIVEMESPORT, two more clubs have joined the race. Leeds United is said to be showing an interest, although it’s also claimed that Kelleher doesn’t want to drop down to the Championship, meaning the Yorkshire club would need to secure promotion this season to land his signature – something it is on course to do.

Meanwhile, Tottenham is also said to ‘appreciate’ Kelleher, although a move to North London might be out of the question. While Spurs are claimed to be interested, they are still backing their current options in Guglielmo Vicario and January signing Antonin Kinsky, meaning Kelleher would not be guaranteed the No.1 spot.

Liverpool.com says: You can’t begrudge Kelleher a move this summer. He has been superb for the Reds, and he undoubtedly deserves the chance to become a No.1 elsewhere – he’d absolutely walk into a lot of current Premier League teams.

It’s just a shame what will likely be his last game for Liverpool ended the way it did. Still, he can leave as a Premier League champion, having more than played his part once again.
