‘Always late’: Anthony Gordon says £20m Newcastle player is always getting fined by Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe has drilled this Newcastle team into one of the Premier League’s most well-oiled footballing machines.

Indeed, Howe has made this team tick in a way that didn’t seem possible a few years ago. Joelinton has transformed under the tutelage of Howe, while Jacob Murphy has also massively improved under Howe.

However, as good a manager as Eddie Howe is, keeping all of your players in check is never an easy job.

At every football club, you get those players who can’t help but break a rule or two.

Speaking to Pro Direct Soccer, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes were asked to name the player at Newcastle who receives the most fines.

According to both players, Joe Willock is often receiving fines from the manager, due to lateness.

Joe Willock receives the most fines at Newcastle

According to Gordon and Guimaraes, Willock is the player who racks up the most fines at Newcastle.

Gordon says that Willock doesn’t even care about the fines most of the time, due to how much he earns.

“Who gets fined the most?” Gordon was asked.

“That’s not even a question. He does it on purpose, he’s just on that much that he doesn’t even care,” Gordon said.

“Joe Willock

“Everything, he’s just late to stuff that you shouldn’t be late for.”

“He’s always late,” Guimaraes added.

How much do Newcastle players get fined for being late?

Willock appears to have run up quite the tab in terms of late fines, and that will be handy by the time the Christmas party comes around.

Willock is having to pay these fines fairly often, but how much is he being fined?

Well, according to Callum Wilson, speaking on the club’s YouTube channel last year, the fine for being late isn’t too hefty, and sits at just a few hundred pounds.

“We only do late fines,” Wilson said.

“We have a wheel and you spin it, and on the wheel there are the figures that you have to pay.

“The maximum is three figures and it’s kept quite low-key.”

Considering that Willock reportedly earns £80,000-a-week, you can see why he’s not too fussed about the idea of being fined minimal amounts.

That said, Willock does need to keep his time management in check, because certain managers simply won’t stand for that sort of thing.
