Arsenal want to sign Newcastle central midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
Incoming Sporting Director Andrea Berta wants to overhaul the Gunners midfield in the summer, with a deal to sign Martin Zubímendi from Real Sociedad already in the works.
But now he wants to add the 27-year old Brazilian to the mix, having previously attempted him to sign him three times whilst he was at Atlético Madrid. Guimarães joined Newcastle in 2022 from Lyon, and, having penned a new deal with them 18 months ago, is under contract until 2028.
He had previously been linked with a move to Manchester City but that interest failed to materialise.
There is some confusion about whether he has a gentleman’s agreement with Newcastle if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. They are currently sixth, on the same number of points as Manchester City, but with a worse goal difference.
England are widely expected to have five clubs in the Champions League next season because of their UEFA coefficient.
