Abdoulaye Doucoure and Asmir Begovic are two of Everton’s players currently observing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The Blues duo – as well as teammates Idrissa Gana Gueye, Youssef Chermiti and Iliman Ndiaye – join hundreds of Muslim players in the top four tiers of English football in juggling the exertions of fasting in daylight hours with training schedules and matches.

Ramadan, which this year began on the evening of Friday 28 February, is expected to draw to a close on Sunday 30 March – with the three-day celebration Eid-al-Fitr set to immediately follow.
