Exclusive: Liverpool ask about signing £40m Chelsea player who is seen as a future captain at Stamford Bridge

Liverpool remain strong admirers of Levi Colwill and are continuing to keep tabs on his situation at Chelsea, TBR Football can exclusively reveal.

However, Chelsea are adamant that they remain committed to keeping Colwill and that the defender will not be made available for transfer.

Liverpool have tried to sign Colwill on more than one occasion and they are in the market for at least one new defender this summer.

Ideally, the Reds have been looking for a left-footed centre back and Colwill, who Chelsea have previously valued at £40 million, would fit that bill very well.

Liverpool ask Chelsea about the possibility of signing Levi Colwill

Liverpool have checked in with Chelsea and Levi Colwill’s camp to assess the situation ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Graeme Bailey – chief correspondent at TBR Football.

The Reds may need a new centre-back with Virgil van Dijk’s future at Liverpool remaining unresolved as he enters the final few months of his contract.

TBR Football has already revealed that Liverpool plan to step up talks with Van Dijk over the international break and they will be desperate to reach a breakthrough.

In the meantime, the Merseyside club are continuing to work on bringing in another top defender and the 22-year-old is a player who is rated highly at Anfield.

The defender was recently named in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad for games against Albania and Latvia, again showing how highly rated he is at the top level.

Chelsea view Levi Colwill as a potential future captain

Colwill himself was unsure about his Chelsea future previously, but he has become a key figure and committed to a six-year deal in 2023.

TBR Football is told that both Chelsea and Colwill are not looking at a change anytime soon, indeed Colwill is seen by many at Stamford Bridge as a cornerstone of the squad and a future captain.
