The FA have made a decision on whether to ban the celebration used by Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund in his side’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.
United extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to four matches with victory at the King Power Stadium.
Goals from Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes secured the win for Ruben Amorim‘s side, who move up to 13th place in the Premier League table.
For Hojlund, the strike was his first goal in 22 matches in what had become an extremely concerning drought.
The Dane marked the moment with a new celebration – but it quickly caused controversy.
He celebrated by putting his thumbs up towards the United fans in Leicester, before then turning it into a thumbs down.
But the main controversy was when he performed a ‘cut-throat’ gesture – from the Gladiator film franchise – with some fans claiming it glorified violent behaviour.
However, the Daily Mail report that the FA have taken a ‘relaxed view‘ on the celebration and are not planning to tell Hojlund to stop doing it.
Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet after the 3-0 win, Hojlund revealed that he has had support from his United team-mates, including compatriots Christian Eriksen and Patrick Dorgu, as well as a Danish United legend.
He explained: “Peter [Schmeichel] helps me occasionally and listens to how I’m feeling, both when things are going well and things are going badly.
“I wouldn’t call him a father figure but he helps a lot, because he’s been through it before. He knows what it means to play for Manchester United as a Dane. It’s nice to have someone to spar with on that front.
“Christian also helps me and the others. But, if there are other people who come and want a little help, I’m available. Both for everyone here and Patrick and Chido.”
