In the summer, one area where Liverpool might feel they still need more bodies is at centre-back.
Virgil van Dijk is set for new contract talks with Liverpool during the international break but in the event that no agreement is reached and he moves on in the summer, signing a new centre-half will become one of the Reds’ biggest priorities in the summer. But even if Van Dijk were to stay at Anfield, their only other options at the back remain Ibrahima Konate, Jarrell Quansah and Joe Gomez.
Konate is a top-class central defender but he tends to pick up quite a few injuries, Quansah is still quite young and Gomez does not seem to fit Arne Slot’s ideal profile of player.
With Liverpool looking in pole position to win the Premier League this season as well, the chiefs in Merseyside have no reason not to fully back Slot’s vision in the transfer market.
Liverpool are interested in signing Dean Huijsen, whose calmness on the ball, astute reading of the game and leadership at the back are traits that would make him a cracker of a addition for Arne Slot.
Bayern Munich have sent scouts “several times” to watch Liverpool target Dean Huijsen
Huijsen’s agents have spoken to Liverpool too. But Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bayern Munich have scouted Dean Huijsen on multiple occasions this season.
The 19-year-old is not short of suitors this summer, with Arsenal and Newcastle eyeing Huijsen too.
Romano added that signing the Spaniard is a relatively straightforward process, as any clubs such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich simply have to pay the £50 million release clause in his contract.
Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel: “But for Huijsen, we have to see what happens with more clubs. For example, Bayern have sent their scouts several times to follow Dean Huijsen and they keep having his name in his list so there are many clubs interested in this player and you don’t have to negotiate with Bournemouth.”
“Because the clause is £50 million, you can go there, pay the clause or try to find an agreement, pay the clause or try to find an agreement on the structure on the clause and then agree with the player.”
Dean Huijsen might have already decided his next club
In theory, Liverpool could most certainly trump Bayern in a race to sign Huijsen.
The former Juventus colossus must know how massive a club the English giants are, having played against them since signing for Bournemouth. Furthermore, the prospect of continuing his time in the most watched league in the world would be enticing him.
However, TBR Football revealed earlier this month that Real Madrid are interested in Huijsen and so are their local rivals Atletico Madrid.
TBR Football understands that due to the youngster’s Spanish roots, a return to his homeland could appeal to him over any signing for other club.
However, it is important to note that Huijsen has yet to decide his future and he could very well even end up staying at Bournemouth beyond this season.
