Estevao Willian’s agent has revealed that Chelsea made the player a promise which convinced him that signing for the West London club was the right decision.

Several clubs, including Arsenal, also tried to sign Estevao, however, it was the Blues who managed to capture his signature in a deal worth around £51 million.

The Brazilian has been back on loan at Palmeiras where he continues to impress and is due to make the switch to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Estevao has been ranked as the second-best teenager in world football in NXGN 2025, just behind FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, such is the excitement around the young Brazilian forward.

Chelsea willing to play Estevao Willian in the number ten role

Estevao Willian has revealed that Chelsea’s willingness to play the 18-year-old in the number ten role was a crucial factor in him signing for the West London club.

The Brazilian’s agent believes that the player’s best position is centrally rather than on the right wing which is where he currently plays for Palmeiras.

Estevao has also revealed his desire to play in the number ten role ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Andre Curry, Estevao’s agent, told Ge Globo: “It was the only club that saw us as number ten, to play in midfield. I may be wrong, but we will have the opportunity. I think we will be right, so that was also something that weighed heavily (on his decision to sign for Chelsea).

“In my opinion, he should play as ten. They (Palmeiras) like to put him on the wing. I think it’s too narrow for a player of that quality, I think that like all players of that quality in the world, he’s usually the number ten, so the number ten plays inside.”

Estevao Willian breaks Neymar Jr’s Serie A record

Back in October of last year, Estevao broke Neymar Jr’s record for the most goal contributions by an under-17 player in a single top-flight season in Brazil.

Neymar’s previous record with Santos was 17 goals and assists, however, the future Chelsea man managed 13 goals and nine assists in 31 Serie A matches last season.
