Liverpool signed off for the international break after exiting the Champions League and losing the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
The Reds were the pre-game favorites to clinch glory at the national stadium but goals from Newcastle United duo Alexander Isak and Dan Burn secured a first major domestic trophy for the Magpies since they won the FA Cup in 1955.
Italian winger Federico Chiesa scored in stoppage time to hand the Reds hope of taking the game to extra time, but they could not find a second goal before the final whistle. In truth, Liverpool didn’t deserve anything more than a defeat.
