West Ham United have been interested in signing Jonathan David from Lille for a while now.

TBR Football exclusively revealed in January that Graham Potter instructed West Ham to sign David.

However, it will be easier said than done for the Hammers to sign Jonathan David due to the number of other clubs lining up to land his signature.

Arsenal are interested in Lille’s David as well, with Andrea Berta keen on signing him, for instance.

David could leave Lille on a free as his contract expires in the summer, handing West Ham an incredible opportunity to sign one of Europe’s best young strikers for the ultimate bargain.

West Ham concerned as Jonathan David could join bigger clubs

While West Ham did sign Evan Ferguson on a loan deal until the end of the season, David is a much more proven player than any of their existing options — having proven his quality in Ligue 1 and the Champions League for a few seasons now.

Even this campaign, the Canadian international has 23 goals in total to his name.

David has been compared to Erling Haaland, which is a testament to his exciting potential.

But GiveMeSport have revealed that West Ham are worried they may be unable to sign the 25-year-old as he may prefer a move to a bigger club. For now, the danger for the Irons is that they will have to continue waiting for David to decide his future as he has decided to take his time and come to a stance.

Furthermore, journalist Dean Jones also claimed that as much as West Ham would like to sign the Brooklyn-born number nine, he is expected to opt for a club that can offer him Champions League football.

Jonathan David already in “advanced talks” with European giants

As much as Graham Potter is trying to keep West Ham’s sinking ship afloat, they are languishing in 16th place in the Premier League.

But a player like the in-demand marksman could have a transformative impact on their side for years to come.

However, TBR Football were informed that David is in “advanced talks” to join Barcelona.

A move to Spain could be on the cards for him, with people close to the coveted goalscorer believing that signing for Hansi Flick’s side is his dream destination and a deal is not far away from completion.

Even if David’s potential transfer to Barcelona falls through, TBR Football were of the understanding that West Ham would have to compete with Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur to sign him.
