Arsenal are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window after failing to bring in any players in January.
The Gunners have had a decent season and remain in the Champions League picture, but they’ve fallen behind in the Premier League title race.
In addition, Arsenal are likely to lose Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the summer due to expiring contracts.
Now, one midfielder the Gunners have already held talks with has just been deemed one of the 20 best youngsters in world football.
Indeed, said player has been rated higher than Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall and Manchester CIty’s Vitor Reis.
Arsenal target Sverre Nypan ranked at number 14 on list of 50 best teenage footballers
The player in question is Rosenborg prodigy Sverre Nypan, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal for some time.
Arsenal were confident of signing Nypan in January, but the midfielder opted to delay his decision after talking with a number of clubs.
Nypan has now been named at number 14 in Goal.com’s NxGn 2025 list, in which they rank the world’s best 50 teenage footballers.
NxGn 2025 also reiterated that the Gunners have held talks with the 18-year-old, though Man City are also on the case.
‘Just over 10 years ago, then-teenaged Norwegian Martin Odegaard embarked on a tour of Europe as elite clubs from around the continent battled to sign one of the best midfield talents on the planet,’ they wrote.
‘Now, a decade or so later, Sverre Nypan has followed in his compatriot’s footsteps, and while he is yet to make a decision regarding a transfer, there is a belief that he can match Odegaard’s impact on the game in the coming years.
‘The 18-year-old managed 15 combined goals and assists from central midfield for Rosenborg during the 2024 campaign, and Nypan has since held talks with Arsenal and the City Football Group, among others, as he plots his next move, which will almost certainly arrive this summer.’
Meanwhile, Bergvall is in 17th place, while Reis is in 16th place.
What Sverre Nypan thinks about potential Arsenal move
Journalist Steve Kay recently shared what he knows about Nypan and Arsenal.
According to the journalist, the youngster is very keen to join the Gunners, and he’s also heard that he is an elite young player with world-class potential.
“My understanding, talking to people really close to the deal, people closer than I will ever be, he really wants to sign for Arsenal, they’re his first choice. Yeah, for a few reasons,” Kay said.
“He’s spoken to Martin Odegaard on a few occasions, he’s impressed with Mikel Arteta and he thinks that Arsenal are the best club for him to continue his development.
“Yeah, apparently this kid could be anything, speaking to people, he is elite, he is an elite youngster.
“Some well-known top journalists who I trust greatly who I’ve spoken to say he has the potential to be world-class.
“He’s special, and Arsenal are favourites to get him, so yeah, whatever fee it will be, it will be a record fee for Rosenberg.
“They say about his development, but people I’ve spoken to, they say that he’s ready.”
