Will it ever happen?
Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel has a had a relatively successful loan stint at VfB Stuttgart over the past two seasons, but he would be lying if he said he was not at least thinking about what it might be like to be the No. 1 goalkeeper in Bavaria at some point.
”If I go back and get the option to be number one in Munich, I will definitely fight to be number one. Absolutely. I’m looking forward to that,” Nübel told Welt am Sonntag (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It was clear that something would happen, as Daniel Peretz had suffered an unfortunate injury. But Bayern could have brought in whoever they wanted or reached even higher, it’s Bayern.
“If Manuel should retire at some point, I hope I can then play in goal for FC Bayern. I’m looking forward to that time, but at the same time I’m relatively relaxed.”
Nübel will get a chance to prove his wear for the German national team, but if the former Schalke 04 man wants to have any hope of winning the job in Bavaria, he will have to be a whole lot more consistent moving forward than he has been thus far in his career.
