Angel Gomes is about to leave Lille

Angel Gomes came through Manchester United academy but his fortunes changed when he joined Lille in the summer of 2020. He has managed to establish himself at the French club and also earn a recall to his national football team.

Gomes is having a decent season where he has netted two goals and provided an assist in 20 games. He is averaging 0.5 shots, 0.9 key passes, and 0.3 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).

The English midfielder is versatile to don different roles in the middle of the park. He is comfortable on the ball and remains composed under pressure. He has great dribbling and passing abilities, making him a valuable player while going higher on the pitch.

Angel Gomes is wanted by many clubs

Barcelona have somewhere relied on free agents in recent seasons due to their financial crisis. Though the situation has improved, running behind more free agents won’t be a bad idea at all. Hence, their interest in Angel Gomes makes sense.

Gomes is a talented midfielder who can contribute in both aspects of the game. He can be used as doube pivot or feature in an attacking midfielder role. As he is just 24, he can dedicate his peak years and serve the club for many years to come.

However, signing him won’t be easy at all considering multiple English clubs are running to get his signature. West Ham United recently offered him a £100,000 week wage but the player rejected the interest. It will be interesting to see if he actually shows interest in the Spanish outfit or not.
