Liverpool has confirmed its 23-player squad for Saturday’s Legends game against Chelsea at Anfield.
The match is being played to raise funds for the LFC Foundation and the terrific work it does in the community. The match will also commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the famous Liverpool vs Chelsea Champions League tie – and the infamous Luis Garcia ‘ghost goal’ that saw the Reds progress.
Liverpool has confirmed Sir Kenny Dalglish will manage the side, with Yossi Benayoun, Martin Kelly, Albert Riera and Ryan Babel among the latest call-ups. Reds legend Steven Gerrard is the most high-profile player involved, with the likes of Jerzey Dudek, Sami Hyypia, Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt also set to play.
Natasha Dowie is also involved and will make history as the first female player to be involved in the annual legends game. Dowie is Liverpool women’s record goalscorer with 47 strikes from her time at the Reds.
Tickets for Saturday’s game (3pm kick-off in the UK) can be purchased at Liverpool’s website with prices set at £29 for adults, £19 for concessions and £9 for juniors.
The LFC Foundation will use funds from the game to help ‘tackle health inequalities across the Liverpool City Region’.
“The LFC Foundation believes that a person’s life expectancy shouldn’t be determined by their postcode. According to a recent report, the life expectancy for individuals in the Liverpool City Region is lower than the national average, and there are higher levels of obesity in children and adults, as well as higher levels of ill mental health in our communities compared to the average figures across the country,” the club said via its website.

As for Chelsea’s team, which will be managed by 2012 Champions League winning coach Roberto Di Matteo, the likes of Carlo Cudicin, Gary Cahill, John Obi Mikel, Ramires, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Gianfranco Zola are set to feature. The Blues will be raising funds for the Chelsea Foundation.
