Over the years Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy certainly hasn’t shied away from sacking managers who he considered to have run their course.

Levy is considering Ange Postecoglou’s future at the club right now, a boss that Tottenham have actually shown an unprecedented amount of patience with.

Postecoglou has a worrying record at Spurs – his points per match ratio is even worse than Nuno Espirito Santo recorded in N17 for example, a manager who was let go a lot earlier on.

That being said, former Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle was among the first to be sacked by Levy back in 2003, labelling himself as ‘shocked and disappointed’ at this time, a decision that came only six matches into the new season.

Hoddle went on to manage Wolverhampton Wanderers for 76 games thereafter, but he never returned to Spurs, a club who he thrived for as a player.

However, when speaking in a lengthy interview with beIN SPORTS recently, Hoddle admitted that he would now like to return to Spurs in a new capacity.

Hoddle was asked about his relationship with Tottenham today, and when confirming that he is on good terms with Levy right now, he said that there’s a different role at the club that he’s wanted for some time.

Hoddle: “Daniel Levy who sacked me, we get on – we’re okay, we’re fine and Tracy his wife, we go beginning of the season and end of the season – well I think it was the City game there as a guest in the Chairman’s suite.

“So everything is fine you know, it’s great. I would love, if I’m honest – people say would you go back into football and all these things and well you never say never in football.

“I’m only 66 – it’s not old, old is it? I would love to mentor young players, particularly at Tottenham, being my club.

“I would love to mentor, I know the journey that they’re going to have to take on and off the pitch and I think that would really give me a lot of pleasure to do that.

“I don’t know really why that hasn’t happened – it nearly did, and the communication has gone a little bit awol but I was hoping that was going to happen and it hasn’t, so anyway I move on.”

The youngsters who Glen Hoddle could help at Tottenham

Should Hoddle ever be handed that position, perhaps there are one or two youngsters he could immediately help fulfill their potential at Spurs.

Dane Scarlett is set for a bigger role at Tottenham next season, a young striker who has impressed in one or two cameos since returning from his loan at Oxford United.

And perhaps Jamie Donley could also be the recipient of some good Hoddle advice – another youngster who is on the cusp of Postecoglou’s plans, but someone it could seemingly still go either way for.

Donley is determined to succeed at Spurs, but it remains to be seen if there will be adequate opportunities for him next season.

Tottenham do have an excellent academy set-up, one they might be wary of changing, but perhaps Hoddle could still add some expertise in the future.
