Report: Liverpool’s dream Salah replacement is a winger who actually set a record no player has in history

4 Min Read

In the event that Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool in the summer, the Reds will have the near-impossible task of signing a replacement for one of the best players in their history.

Furthermore, the Liverpool legend is in the form of his life and is not showing any signs of a decline anytime soon.

Wayne Rooney named Salah as the world’s best player and it is hard to disagree with the Manchester United legend as he has been up there with the likes of Raphinha and Kylian Mbappe this season.

Liverpool will negotiate Salah’s contract with him during the international break and all hope might not be lost about keeping him at Anfield. But regardless of the eventual outcome, the Merseyside-based club may be best advised to keep an eye on potential replacements for Mohamed Salah.

One player who may be deemed capable of doing the job is Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman.

Ademola Lookman on Liverpool’s radar if Mohamed Salah leaves

Lookman, like Salah is one of the most productive wingers in world football.

Another similarity that the Nigerian international shares with the Champions League winner is his ability to win games singlehandedly — as was on display in last season’s Europa League final where the former Everton winger became the sixth player to score a treble in a European final and the first to do so in the history of the game in a one-legged final of the competition.

Interestingly, TBR Football exclusively revealed a few weeks ago that Lookman could return to the Premier League this summer. Chelsea and Arsenal are eyeing Lookman, who is expected to be on the radar of a whole host of clubs if he decides to leave Atalanta.

However, TuttoAtalanta have claimed that in case Salah leaves Liverpool this summer, Lookman is the Premier League leaders’ top target to replace him.

Aside from Chelsea and Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Newcastle United are also interested in signing the 27-year-old. While Juve have contacted Lookman, he will only sign for a club that can offer them Champions League football and currently, Thiago Motta’s side are in fifth place in Serie A.

Comparing Ademola Lookman’s stats to Mohamed Salah this season

While there is no questioning the Europa League winner’s pedigree, whether he could be a worthy replacement for Salah if he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season is worth investigating.

The Egyptian international is one of the best goalscorers and creators in world football and one of the best players in Premier League history.

With Liverpool’s potential transfer plan in mind, here is a statistical comparison of Lookman and Salah this season.

STATS THIS SEASON ADEMOLA LOOKMAN MOHAMED SALAH
STARTS 27 41
GOALS 18 32
ASSISTS 7 22

The Saudi Pro League are eyeing Salah and he is certainly playing like he wishes to go out with a bang, with 32 goals and 22 assists to his name in all competitions.

Lookman, on the other hand has 18 goals and seven assists but ultimately, the Premier League winner has set standards that are nigh-on unprecedented and it would even be unfair for Liverpool to expect him to replicate the decorated goalscorer’s output if he makes his way to Anfield.
