Arsenal have needed a new striker for a long time now.

The Gunners have been in the market for a new centre-forward for almost three years at this point, and they’ll be scouring the market again this summer.

Benjamin Sesko has been linked to Arsenal in recent times, while Ollie Watkins remains on Arsenal’s radar too.

However, Arsenal’s dream target is Alexander Isak.

Arsenal really want the Newcastle striker, but they could have avoided this whole situation a few years ago.

Indeed, Arsenal were linked with Isak when he was at Real Sociedad, and speaking on TalkSPORT, Ally McCoist has reacted after being told the Gunners could’ve signed the striker years ago.

McCoist spoke about Arsenal lacking a striker.

The pundit was then told that Arsenal could’ve signed Isak when he was younger, and he says that it’s incredible that the Gunners didn’t go for the striker when he was available all those years ago.

“Where I have a level of criticism, and I have high criticism for Arsenal, that’s the lack of an out-and-out centre-forward, that baffles me, baffles me,” McCoist said.

“Do you know that they could’ve signed Isak before he went to Newcastle? They could’ve signed him, they didn’t want to pay the money,” Agbonlahor said.

“I mean, that’s incredible,” McCoist said.

Alexander Isak’s final season at Real Sociedad

Arsenal wanted to sign Isak back in 2022, but they opted against the move as they believed £60m was too much for the striker.

Of course, with hindsight, that sounds ridiculous. After all, Isak is now valued at £200m by some.

However, at the time, that did make some sense.

Back in 2021/22, Isak didn’t have the best of seasons for Real Sociedad, scoring just six league goals that season.

That summer, Arsenal instead went to sign Gabriel Jesus, who was coming off the back of a stronger season at Manchester City and was proven in the Premier League after winning multiple titles.

Of course, in hindsight, signing Isak would’ve been in the right move, but after a poor 2021/22 season, it’s easy to see why Arsenal would have been hesitant about making this move.
