James Trafford is impressing in the Championship with Burnley this season as Scott Parker’s side look to set a whole host of defensive records in the second-tier.
Manchester United are on the lookout for a new goalkeepers as Andre Onana has been criticised throughout his time at United.
Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir has also made some errors when he has stepped in, so reinforcements are definitely needed.

Manchester United have asked about James Trafford
According to information from TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Manchester United have asked about James Trafford.
United are doing work on potential options to bolster their goalkeeping department and TBR Football understands that they are open to bringing someone in to compete with current number one Andre Onana – who has has an up-and-down time at Old Trafford since arriving last summer.
Current number two Altay Bayindir is expected to move back to Turkey at the end of the season and that would leave a slot to fill.
United have been doing work on a number of different goalkeepers – with sources telling TBR Football that they want to be aware of options in every department, but we can confirm that one shot-stopper they have taken a keen interest in is Trafford and have made enquiries.
The Burnley number one has enjoyed a record-breaking season with The Clarets and the expectation is that he moves on at the end of the season.
Newcastle are long-term admirers and almost signed him last summer, and they remain keen but they are also assessing their options.
Manchester City players who joined Manchester United
James Trafford could be set for a return to Manchester just two years on from leaving Manchester City.
Indeed, Burnley paid £15m to sign Trafford from City in 2023, and now, the Englishman could be headed back to Manchester.
Trafford has also been linked to Tottenham, while Newcastle have long been keen on Trafford.
If Trafford does head to Manchester United, he wouldn’t be the first former Manchester City player to head to the Red Devils.
Of course, there are more famous examples the other way around – Peter Schmeichel, Andy Cole and Carlos Tevez all famously switched red for blue. However, some players have crossed the divide the opposite way.

Jadon Sancho |

The most famous example there is Jadon Sancho, who was on City’s books as a youngster before heading to Manchester United, via Borussia Dortmund.
Trafford could be set for a similar journey to Sancho, but he’ll be hoping for better results should he end up at Old Trafford as Sancho struggled to ever get going at United.
