Liverpool are expected to be very active in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have missed out on the Carabao Cup, and their Champions League dream ended prematurely as well. All that’s left is the Premier League now, and they are still the favourites to win it.
Irrespective of what happens there, Arne Slot needs reinforcements this summer, especially as Liverpool are said to be ready to sell five players.
Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott are three of them, so new signings in attack are an absolute necessity. Slot has now received a recommendation from one of his compatriots.
Former Feyenoord manager says he wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool bid for Igor Paixao
Slot made a big name for himself at Feyenoord.
The Dutchman did a phenomenal job there, and his management at De Kuip is what impressed Liverpool and convinced them to appoint him as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Slot signed and developed a number of excellent players in Feyenoord – one of them was Igor Paixao.
The Brazilian winger was always seen as a huge talent, and he has taken his game to a whole new level in the Netherlands this season.
Paixao has scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions so far, and former Feyenoord manager Rob Jacobs has tipped Liverpool to sign him.
When asked to choose between Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Paixao, Jacobs told Rijnmond: “Then I’ll go for Paixão. I really think he makes Liverpool stronger. Arne Slot should also enjoy his development.
“Gakpo is of course also a fantastic player and is doing well at Liverpool, but I think Paixão is better.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool would report to Feyenoord. Hey, €40 million or €50 million? They don’t make a fuss about that in England.”
What Igor Paixao said about Arne Slot when he joined Liverpool
Paixao played 81 times under Slot at Feyenoord after joining the Dutch club from Coritiba in Brazil.
The winger directly contributed to 31 goals under the current Liverpool boss, and he has credited him for his development.
However, Paixao boldly claimed in June 2024 that he helped Slot too before wishing the Dutchman well when it was decided that he would move to Liverpool.
He told Globo Esporte: “He also helped me with my arrival, with my evolution, and I had the feeling that I was helping him. Good thing everything went well. He did an exceptional job with our squad.
“I just have to thank him and wish him success at Liverpool. He will be missed, but he has to keep working.”
