Julian Naglesmann and the German national team won a crucial 2-1 bout at the San Siro in Milan, claiming the first leg in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal stage against Italy. Germany captain and Bayern Munich living legend Joshua Kimmich provided two perfect assists on crosses. After being left off the 2024 EURO squad, Leon Goretzka returned to deliver the knockout punch with his game-winning header in the 76th minute.
In three days’ time, Germany will return home for the second leg at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. Naglesmann knows that Germany will need the crowd’s full support to advance to the semifinals.
“The stadium was sold out in two hours,” said Naglesmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We had a crazy game in Dortmund at the Euros against Denmark, the support was great. I’m looking forward to the game in another big stadium. Our fans were loud here today, I hope they will be louder on Sunday.”
Naglesmann is referring to the EURO 2024 Round of 16 match that saw Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz score in a 2-0 victory. Naglesmann would love to replicate that performance and stretch the undefeated streak against Italy to eight consecutive matches.
